For the past couple of months we have noticed that one particular look has been our hottest styling request and we think you should know about it! What is it?
It’s using metallics in various different ways.
Here we’re talking about sequins, glitter, gold, silver and platinum finishes on everything from invitations through to bridesmaids’ dresses and the way your reception tables are styled.

Metallics work at any time of year
Whether you’re having a spring, summer, autumn or winter wedding day you’ll find that metallics work well.

Think of the richness of metallics at a wedding in the dark of winter, or lighting up a spring day.

Wedding Invitation Inspiration
Invitations
Your metallic theme can weave its way through your big day from the very beginning. You can put your invitations in shiny envelopes or write gold or silver calligraphy for the addresses. For the actual invitation itself, take a look and see what’s around maybe just have a metallic border or decoration.

Wedding cakes
A bit of glitz on a wedding cake can make it a real show stopper. Often the cake forms one of the centrepieces at the wedding reception and if you have a beauty like this, then guests will certainly want to come and take a look.
If you’re going for a plainer wedding cake but still want to add some shimmer, then maybe wrap a metallic ribbon around it and place it on a sequin tablecloth to get the right effect.
Your bridesmaids
Through from your flower girls, your teenage bridesmaids and your adult bridesmaids a dazzle of sequins will be well received.
Little flower girls can have a sequinned bodice on their frock, or sequinned shoes. Your older bridesmaids could have a spectacular sequin sheath dress or a sequinned bodice to match the flower girls.
Your wedding tables
Here you can really show off your sense of style. For a subtle metallic effect, lay a shimmery sequin tablecloth or table runner over your guest tables and alongside the top table.
You could also have metallic or beaded metallic charger plates, spray vases with metallic paint and have gold or silver candles.
If you like wedding DIY, think of some ideas to use sequins. A quick trip to a craft shop should inspire your imagination, as should these images below. Although, as ever, be careful about the amount you decide to DIY. It’s more time-consuming than you expect and making your wedding invitations, favours, décor is a big task. Read our advice on wedding DIY here for some tips.

A blush pink sequin table runner gives a sparkling base note and works well with mercury tea light holders and votives.

Such a show-stopping table setting!

Your wedding dress
As for your wedding dress, well you’ll find that metallics work beautifully.
For a start, if you’ve always wanted a pair of designer shoes maybe a pair of Jimmy Choos then choosing metallic sandals in silver, gold or bronze will mean you have footwear that you can wear over and over again, not just on your wedding day. So in fact they become investment pieces.
If you’re not a traditional kind of a bride, then you could wear a silver or gold sequinned dress or change into one for the evening reception. Or have your bodice in a shimmering metallic finish.
This is a fashion that has so much versatility and it’s very inspirational. So go out, investigate and see what your dress shop consultant can come up with.
Metallics at weddings is also a trend that’s unlikely to date too much so your wedding photographs will look good for a long time to come!
