So you and your other half are a little bit creative, a little bit boho. He’s wearing a blue suit and you’re wearing a red petticoat under your dress with red shoes to match…
Your bridesmaids are also in deliberately miss matched colours. You’ve written your own vows.
In fact, you’re making the whole day your very own.
You want to do something a bit different… personal
So now comes the reception. The idea of having a formal, sit-down reception with tables doesn’t exactly fill you with delight. But what can you do instead? You want your guests to be comfortable and have somewhere to sit. And that includes the older generation coming along, the grandparents, the great aunts and uncles. So how should you do it?
Well, first off, breathe a sigh of relief because you can have a spectacular wedding reception with not a place setting in sight. And here’s how.
Think of different styles of food
If you’re getting married in the summer months, then think about food on wheels.
You could have a fish and chip stall, another stall serving Thai food and maybe a hog roast or even a pizza oven serving up freshly cooked pizzas. How delicious would that be? Then on the side, have an amazing salad bar from which guests can help themselves.
You can continue the theme with your drinks. Have a cocktail bar for guests and another bar specialising in soft drinks, fruit cocktails and smoothies. And of course a bar serving speciality beers. When it’s time for the toasts, have your waiters and waitresses coming round with glasses of the fizzy stuff so guests have it to hand for the speeches.
For desserts, you could have a dessert table, maybe an ice cream van serving a variety of different flavours and a fresh fruit cart.
Think about the sort of food you like and the mood you want to create.
So where should your guests sit?
The beauty of having this sort of buffet style arrangement is that you can have free seating for your guests. You don’t have to worry about people feeling slighted as they are a long way from the top table because you won’t actually have a top table.
If you’re having a country style wedding you can arrange for a stylist to dot hay bales around for your guests to sit on.
Inside a marquee, think festival style. Have long benches and trestle tables for your guests. Mix it up with smaller tables of four or six. And don’t forget some lower tables for the children you’ve invited.
It’s the way you accessorise your seating that is going to make all the difference. And this is where one of our talented (and highly experienced) wedding stylists can step in to help you.
They can create a bride and groom table just for the two of you and deck it out with chair sashes and happy couple signs.
For the guests at a country style wedding, they’ll source cushions for benches and chairs and make everything look pretty, rustic and rural with carefully chosen chair tie-backs.
They’ll find bunting and lanterns to dress the venue too to get the wow factor you want when your guests enter. Maybe find some taper candles to light the way to the reception when dusk falls.
They’ll also have some ideas how to locate everything. You’ll want somewhere for the best man, the bride’s father and the bridegroom to stand when they are making the speeches.
A wedding stylist will also help you to arrange the tables in an attractive style, that’s appealing to your guests and of course you’re going to want to have tables inside whatever the weather.
If you’ve always discounted having a wedding stylist, thinking it would be too expensive then you should think again. In fact having a wedding stylist can actually save you money. Instead of buying all the props you’re going to need, a stylist will include them in their fee and they’ll have plenty of options for you to choose from, everything from table linen and chair dècor to post boxes for your wedding cards.
They can also provide items like light curtains and draping to make an area extra special and a focal point.
Getting in touch doesn’t commit you to anything but it is probably going to be one of the wedding calls you’re really glad you made, so contact us here to discover your local wedding stylist.
