Do you love films? Glamour?
Then a Hollywood wedding theme might suit you down to perfection. And it’s very versatile.
You could base your wedding day around one film in particular – Gone With The Wind, The Notebook or simply have an Oscar-themed wedding day.
As ever, start with your stationery. There are various different ways of starting off the Hollywood theme. You could go straight out for Oscar theming and have stationery created featuring the Oscar statuette. Think about the wording on your invitation and play around with it
“Michelle and James invite you to the main event – the ceremony of their wedding in an award-winning ceremony …” You get the idea. Alternatively, you could use a still from your favourite film and use that to theme your stationery.
Monochrome for your stationery would also work – with a classic movie clip from a black and white film featured.
Getting the look right
So what should you wear? If you’re going for an Oscar theme then it’s easy.
Choose a wedding dress that’s long and evening style, with a small train. Make sure it sparkles with diamanté and Swarovski crystals. And it doesn’t need to be white or ivory either. This is one theme that enables the choice of a coloured wedding dress – which is probably more practical in the long run. You can choose the dress of your dreams and know that you’re going to be able to enjoy wearing it again at smart evening events.
As for the men, it’s probably going to be a black tie wedding dress code, as per the Oscars.
Oh, and make sure you have a red carpet to walk along on the way into your wedding reception!
Invite the Paparazzi
If you want to have a bit of fun with photography, then get your guests ‘papped’ by photographers on their way inside. These don’t have to be professional photographers – they can be actors with cameras – but you’ll get some fun shots of your guests along the way and it sets the mood for an Oscar-themed wedding perfectly.
Styling Your Reception
For some inspiration, look at some You Tube clips of Oscars ceremonies.
You’ll notice plenty of sparkly lighting to add glitz to the proceedings. This is a look that’s easy to emulate with the help of one of our stylists. You could have a curtain of lights on feature walls at your reception – perhaps behind the top table or the buffet. Again, that’s something your stylist could advise on.
Name each guests table after a classic Hollywood film. We’re thinking The Sound of Music, Toy Story, Titanic, Harry Potter, ….
Famous stars have their names and handprints featured on the Hollywood walk of fame in Los Angeles. Use this idea to style your place settings – maybe put a star by each person’s name.
As for colours, black and white is perfect for a Hollywood theme, bringing back the glamour and retro style of black and white movies. It’s also a stunning look with a real wow factor. Ask your stylist to wrap your chairs in black covers tied with white sashes – or the other way around. Lay your tables in monochrome style with black napkins on a classic white tablecloth.
Your wedding cake will take centre stage at your reception so make sure it’s decorated Hollywood style. Have a cake topper made of the pair of you standing on a Hollywood walk of fame star. Or top it with ostrich feathers.
And for Music …
If you’re having a live band at your reception or a DJ, have clips from famous films playing on a blank wall alongside to get the guests into the mood and push your film theme a little bit further.
You might like to use famous film theme music for your arrival at your wedding reception and maybe even for your first dance!
When the speeches are announced, why not have them delivered Hollywood style? Have a master of ceremonies who announces each speaker “And here’s someone who’s known the bride a very long time indeed …. the father of the bride!”
Think creatively and you’ll see there are many ways to bring a Hollywood theme into your big day. And as for décor, talk to one of our stylists and see what ideas they have to make your reception room look perfect – you’ll find somebody local to you right here.
