How to dress a countryside location without looking too rustic!

May 07, 2021

As stylists we’re often asked how to dress a barn venue or countryside location in a way that captures the setting but without looking too rustic. Gone are the days when a barn venue has to mean hessian sashes and log slices. Now couples are looking for something a little different, decor that makes a statement and delivers countryside charm! This week we’re sharing this stunning colourful, rustic outdoor ceremony and reception design by Joely from Ambience Buckinghamshire and a talented team of suppliers.

There’s a lot of appeal when it comes to countryside venues – open aspect views, the great outdoors and a feeling of space and calm. There’s also the incredible ability to really claim your own individual style when it comes to dressing your countryside location or barn venue.

Rustic Charm

Set amongst a beautiful backdrop of nature, we love how this rich warm colour palette of peach and blue really pops against the countryside to create an impactful look. Using tonal styling throughout the florals, glassware, wedding stationery and place settings offered an elegant, refined feel whilst leaving the bare wood of the tables and chairs exposed encapsulated the rustic vibe. This was then teamed with mixed foliage and linen napkins on water hyacinth place mats to bring in textures that complimented the whole look and took it to the next level.

Ceremony Arch

A popular choice for couples getting married in 2021 and 2022 is to hire a backdrop or ceremony arch like this custom made hexagonal one. Dressed with florals it really frames the scenic backdrop and provides lots of picture opportunities! To further incorporate the geometric shapes, Joely used gold geometric lanterns within the styling which we love!

Feature chair decor

Couples are becoming more adventurous with their chair decor and if you decide that you don’t want to dress all of your chairs but you’d like the bride and groom chairs to be a little different, why not opt for feature floral arrangements like these.

Naked cake alternatives

Just like hessian and log slices don’t have to be on your rustic wedding decor list, neither does a naked wedding cake! Perhaps you want something more in keeping with your elegant rustic style like this showstopper featuring dramatic edging, handpainted flowers and contrasting details to really make this design stand out!

Sustainable Decor

A great way to be more sustainable on your wedding day is to pick decor that is multipurpose and can be used to style out numerous areas. For example, crates filled with vibrant overflowing florals can be used for styling out your seating plan, welcome sign, ceremony arch and even the end of your banquet table! There’s no limit to the possibilities so if you’re looking for inspiration, speak to one of our stylists today!
