Supporting Mental Health Awareness Week With Nature
May 13, 2021
This week we’re supporting Mental Health Awareness Week from the 10th – 16th May 2021 and this year’s theme as chosen by the Mental Health Foundation is NATURE, something that we’re very passionate about at Ambience Venue Styling UK!
The power of nature
With over 220k weddings postponed in the UK last year and moved into 2021 and 2022, our stylists have experienced first hand the huge levels of distress and heartache felt by couples, particularly when their wedding day was effected on some occasions 3 or 4 times! Our stylists have also felt the pressures and challenges from their own perspective, suddenly finding themselves with very little work over the last 12 months and losing any sense of routine. It’s fair to say that in one way or another, we’ve all found our mental health has taken a toll during the long months of the pandemic and that’s when millions of us turned to nature!
“There is something to be wondered at in all of Nature’ – Aristotle
Coping strategies – green spaces
Studies suggest that walks outside and exercising outside were our top coping strategies during the pandemic and 45% of us reported that being outdoors in green spaces was vital for our mental health. Not only were we wanting to spend more time outdoors but we were also noticing more of nature’s wonders such as the first blossom, birds singing and burning sunsets.
It’s only since a 1960s study in the US found that patients who were treated in hospitals with a view of nature recovered faster, that science has started to unpack the extraordinary health benefits that nature provides!
Connect with nature and reduce your stress levels
Many people have used the time in lockdown to escape from busy hectic lives of homeschooling and working from home by getting out in the garden. In fact, lots of us have found a new hobby in growing our own herbs and vegetables. Whether that’s cultivating plants in containers, starting a vegetable patch or growing a herb garden!
It would seem that setting our minds to tasks involving nature, offer an outlet for our stress and ultimately make us feel more relaxed. With a more hopeful and promising year ahead for us all, it’s never before been more important to look after our wellbeing. It’s crucial that we continue taking moments for ourselves where we can simply “be” without distraction in order to help keep our minds healthy.
We need to remember to unplug from the day to day bustle and recharge!
Nature’s colour palette!
We’re beyond excited for our couples who will soon be saying their vows, surrounded by loved ones at last and perhaps it’s just a coincidence but there’s a huge number of our clients that have opted for garden led designs with a really organic and natural feel. They’re looking to bring the outdoors in with botanical styling and neutral, earthy colour palettes.
Sage green has become one of the most desired colours within the wedding styling industry and we can’t wait to see venues brought to life with this very versatile colour! Alternatively couples are introducing muted pastels with mood enhancing and calming benefits!
